[REVIEW] Since You've Been Gone by Morgan Matson

Tuesday, August 12, 2014
Synopsis from Goodreads:
The Pre-Sloane Emily didn't go to parties, she barely talked to guys, she didn't do anything crazy. Enter Sloane, social tornado and the best kind of best friend—the one who yanks you out of your shell. But right before what should have been an epic summer, Sloane just... disappears. No note. No calls. No texts. No Sloane. There’s just a random to-do list. On it, thirteen Sloane-selected-definitely-bizarre-tasks that Emily would never try... unless they could lead back to her best friend. Apple Picking at Night? Ok, easy enough.Dance until Dawn? Sure. Why not? Kiss a Stranger? Wait... what?

Getting through Sloane’s list would mean a lot of firsts. But Emily has this whole unexpected summer ahead of her, and the help of Frank Porter (totally unexpected) to check things off. Who knows what she’ll find?

Go Skinny Dipping? Um...

Review:

This is a book I picked up only because of the hype on booktube about it. I wanted to read it at the beginning of the summer but was afraid to start it because of how big it was. I am so glad that I finally read this though.

This is the definition of a summer read. A friend who disappears and leaves a list for a bucket list for her best friend. If it were me having to do the things on the list I would not accomplish anything because I am shy. I love how Emily manages to become good friends (and later in love) with a guy from school that she previously thought was out of her league.

My favorite chapter was when Emily has to get over her fear of horses. I laughed so hard the whole time. It was actually pretty relatable because I am also afraid of horses.

I think the way Morgan Matson made Emily relatable was genius. She was shy, awkward and had so many insecurities. Emily was something that we could actually put a face to from your own life.

This was such a fun read. I enjoyed not having to think to much about the story and it kept me entertained the entire time I was reading it. I am so glad that there was closure for Emily. I love when books have great endings.

4.5 stars
